Meet the Doctor

Dr. Susan Polis is 1997 graduate of Loma Linda University School of Dentistry and a 1980 graduate of the University of Minnesota School of Dental Hygiene. She has been actively involved in the field of Dentistry for over 25 years.

Dr. Polis is a member of the American Dental Association, the Alaska Dental Society, and the Academy of General Dentistry. She recently has undergone and completed training at the prestigious Las Vegas Institute of Advanced Dental Studies in Neuromuscular and Aesthetic Dentistry. Dr. Polis is committed to her patients and dental practice and invests much of her time in continuing education.

When not providing high quality dental care in her Homer and Barrow practices, Dr. Polis enjoys fishing, boating, water-skiing, bowling, coed softball, and snow skiing

Meet the Team Members

Hi, my name is Katie Hollingsworth. I was lead dental assistant and I have recently been promoted to Office Manager. I have been working for Dr. Polis for five years. I was born and raised in Alaska. In my spare time I like to knit, read, do crafts, sew and get down and nerdy playing Xbox 360 and I am a sucker for old scifi movies. In the summer, I try to spend every Saturday at the farmers market, selling Rhubarb and crafted items, also I enjoy hanging out with my family, dogs and market friends.

Hi, my name is Jennifer Frink. I have been here working for a year and I really like it. I attended the TVC Dental Assisting Program. I really enjoy what I do. I enjoy assisting because I'm constantly learning new things. In my spare time I enjoy camping, fishing and spending time with family.

Hi, My name is Skya McKinstry. I am new to the Preventive Dental Team as a dental assistant. I graduated with a bachelor's in Health Ecology from the University of Nevada, Reno. My future plan is to go to school to become a Dental Hygienist. On my free time I enjoy playing sports and I love to travel.

Hi, my name is Sabriena Tesar. I work in both the clinical and administrative areas of the clinic. I have worked for Dr. Polis for almost two years and I enjoy my position here. It is a pleasure to serve the people of the community. I have lived in Homer for over ten years. I enjoy spending my spare time with my family and friends

Hello, my name is Megan Owen. I am new to the Preventive Dental Team. I am the insurance and collections coordinator. I graduated with my associates degree in Health Information Management in 2008. I enjoy spending time with my 2 yr old son who keeps me busy. In my spare time, I enjoy scrap booking, biking, taking photos and hanging out with friends and family.

Meet the Hygienists

Chrissie Trujillo, was raised in Alaska, educated in Alaska and she continues to live in Alaska and serve the Homer community. Chrissie's dedication to Dental Hygiene is apparent in the smiles of the friends and families she has served since 1987. She enjoys fishing, snow shoeing, skiing, and bird watching.

Tamra Dowdy, is our new Barrow Hygienist. Tamra was raised in Oregon, and has been practicing as a Registered Dental Hygienist since 1986. She brings with her, years of continuing education, and training in expanded functions, such as Laser Certification, anesthesia, and sealants. Her passion as a therapist, has gifted her with a broad basis, in which to provide caring, thorough, and proven care. Her soft touch and patient education, will make your next hygiene visit the best you've experienced!
Tamra enjoys hobbies of horse riding, fishing, diving, hiking. Since moving to Barrow, she has added 4 wheeling and snow machines!

Angela Duke, born and raised in Alaska. She has been working in the dental field and loving it for 11years. She thinks teeth are COOL and wants to make each appointment the best experience possible.
She graduated from Dental Hygiene School in Arizona as valedictorian for both clinical and academic skills. Her five years of dental hygiene practice in Arizona has focused mainly on severe periodontal conditions. She brings with her years of continuing education and anesthesia experience.
Angela's hobbies are exploring health education for the body as a whole as well as its connection to oral health, doing Pilates, baking and she attempts to explore her crafty skills.
